The Community - The Woodhorn Group
Woodhorn and the Community
Our role in a Community in which we have lived and worked for over 140 years is fundamental to who we are as a Company.
As a result, we we’re happy to support several local initiatives on an ongoing basis as well as various events throughout the year.
The Aldingbourne Trust
We are active supporters of The Aldingbourne Trust, a charity that provide care, support and employment opportunities to over 1,000 people with learning difficulties and autism in West Sussex. We recently funded the creation of a hedge maze at the Aldingbourne Country Centre and actively support their thriving wood recycling enterprise. The Centre attracts over 50,000 visitors per year creating income for the Trust as well as employment opportunities for Clients.
In recent years, we’ve also
- Supported the Apuldram Centre near Chichester
- Provided free tractor rides at The Oving Scarecrow Day
- Sponsored the Strongman Competition at Littlehampton’s Armed Forces Day
- Provided the Tangmere Village Christmas tree
- Made donations to:
- Tangmere Scouts
- The Rotary annual Chichester Dragon Boat Race
- The Lorica Trust
- Children with cancer UK
- Oving parish Church
Supporting Education and Sport
We are keen supporters of local schools, regularly providing practical and financial help to create gardens, forest schools and vegetable patches on school grounds. This outdoor space is incredibly valuable to young people and we hope it will help to inspire the next generation of growers and farmers. It also helps with wellbeing and can engage those struggling with mental health or anxiety. As well as taking our support into schools we also offer an annual programme of free farm visits to both schools and youth groups.
Given the nature of our rural surroundings, access to sports pitches is somewhat limited and so we have built a football pitch on the farm for community use. This is now used by teams from Barnham Trojans FC and by Brighton and Hove Albion’s ‘Albion in the Community’ programme.
In the same way as we have helped to develop outdoor learning spaces in schools, we have helped smaller community groups to develop their sport pitches and will always do our best to help those requesting our knowledge and expertise.
